National Park - 178km, 2hrs 15mins
Towering above the surrounding countryside, the three peaks of Mt Ruapehu (2797m), Mt Tongariro (1967m), and Mt Ngauruhoe (2287m) dominate the central North Island's horizons. The skiing destination of the North Island, the national park also offers scenic helicopter flights, skydiving, tramping and major walks, including the Tongariro Crossing, a one day hike to the Crater Lake. Nearby Waiouru has a fascinating army museum.
