John Mortland was born into a farming family in the back blocks of Taihape (deep in the central North Island). After moving to the Waikato, he and Jenny ran a large scale cattle, sheep and deer farm for 20 years, where they raised 3 children, all of whom are in their 40’s.
They now reside on a small farm on the outskirts of the delightful village of Pirongia in the Waikato, North Island, New Zealand, where they farm small numbers of sheep and cattle. Jenny works as an Accountant in the nearby town of Te Awamutu and tends to the garden, while John keeps the farm in good order.
Conservationists and beautifiers by nature, at Somersal they have created a private and enchanting rural retreat: a spacious, comfortable home set in a large peaceful garden where native birds abound and spectacular views open out across the surrounding countryside to Mt Pirongia.
